Flik at Milton wins National Account of the Year!!!

In November, Flik at Milton won the Flik Northeast Account of the Year, as well as the National Account of the Year.

John Soldano, Director of Dining Services, credits the management team and staff for the awards this year. Andrea Donofrio, Executive Chef, led our transition to healthier menus. Our menus are now trans-fat free and the baker has introduced more whole grains and fruit and also reduced the sugar content of desserts. Flik is following Compass initiatives; such as, sustainable seafood and buying local produce. The Visiting Chef program has brought the Executive Sous Chef to all the dining halls with presentations like Roll Your Own Sushi and Pumpkin Risotto.

Flik loves the Milton environment and credits it with keeping the team’s energies and morale high. John points out that it is easy to be motivated here and is pleased that last year the Academy’s Dining Committee gave Flik its highest evaluations ever!

Milton Academy wins "National Whole Grains Challenge"

The Whole Grains Council named Milton Academy’s dining service team the winners of this year’s Whole Grains Challenge, a competition involving restaurants, schools and hospitals from across the country. Flik at Milton won the challenge in the category of K-12 independent schools by demonstrating a commitment to serving whole grains. The Whole Grains Council, a consumer advocacy group, was founded in 2003 by a group of scientists, chefs, members of the industry and Oldways, the pioneer in successful promotion of healthy, traditional eating patterns.

Andrea Donofrio, Executive Chef, led the initiative to make Milton's menus healthier, and incorporating whole grains throughout our dining program. Milton offers whole grains in  entrees, soups, and desserts. Whole grain salads are a popular feature in our salad bar with quinoa, wheat berries, and lentils included in the recipes.
